Planning the Journey

How do you anticipate this team project, from topic choice to writing the final paper, will be accomplished? Describe your communication plan and how you will hold yourselves/one another accountable for task completion. Describe your plan for conflict management (team member not fully participating, failing to complete agreed upon work on time, poor quality work, etc.). Describe any benefits or barriers you might anticipate to completing this collaborative project as a team. How might this be useful in your future nursing practice?

While I have not completed a group research project since my undergraduate degree, I am looking forward to working with my peers on this evidence-based practice research project since I know this experience will help each of us in our future careers.  I anticipate that we will need to establish strong communication and organizational skills to complete each phase of this process successfully.  I am confident that we will not face any challenges in determining a topic choice and putting together a PICOT question.  We each bring a unique skill set that will be beneficial to the various components of this research process.

My communication plan is for us to schedule weekly check in points to review current assignments and plan for upcoming tasks to complete.  We will each work on a piece of the assignment or we will meet collectively to collaborate on an assignment depending on what the task is.  We can also utilize Googledocs and Zoom to collaborate in the instance we are unable to meet in person.  If one of us is unable to complete an assigned task, we will determine alternative methods to ensure that every part of the research process is completed in a timely manner, which may involve more group collaboration versus autonomous work.  The benefits of working on a team for a research project is the sharing of ideas and offering new perspectives, which is not feasible during an independent project.  It also allows for more research to be conducted, thus more evidence to apply to our PICOT question.  The barrier that we may face is schedule conflicts since this is a busy semester.  This can be addressed at the beginning of the research project so we have solutions in place that would help alleviate some of the schedule conflicts.  Challenges are somewhat expected during team projects, however if we can establish effective communication methods early on, we will navigate the unexpected circumstances more effectively.

This project will be useful in my future nursing practice because it will allow me to better understand how decisions are made for patient care, and how I can help facilitate change in an organization using the PICOT method.  I am also excited to experience the research process within the nursing field since it will prepare me for any research opportunities that are presented later in my career.
